Ulp. You know I'm not overkeen on silver beet, don't you... . Still, as long as it's interspersed with pumpkin and lashings of granddaughters I can cope. :) Seriously, I've yet to have a less-than delicious meal from your kitchen. I'll even try the cream of silverbeet soup. Once, anyway.

I actually stumbled upon your page when looking up Pastor Al Martin. I'm a soon-to-be first time mom and have been thinking long and hard about what it will mean for me to be wife AND mother now. My husband and I both desire for me to stay home with our baby; however, I am terribly intimidated by the high pressures and demands of a homemake's role!

I agree with the Bible's teaching of women's roles being mainly in the home. I even enjoy the idea of it very much and admire women who are fantastic role models of this teaching. I did not grow up with a Biblical mother role model; thus, I don't feel like I have the skills, abilities (sewing, cooking, educating etc...) or motivation to be this homely wife you speak of.

Also, here in America, women's roles are bombarded with the femanist mentality--even with Christian women. Women are finding more fulfillment in working and career advancement. This makes is doubly challenging for me to embrace the Bible's teaching of being a homemaker and being content with it.

Your blog was both encouraging and nerve wrecking for me. I truely believe that women glorify God in a unique and great way when they take their role in the home seriously! I just have to find my niche as a wife and soon-to-be-mother.

Thank you for your blog; I will continue to come back to it and hopefully find much encouragement and hope through it.

God bless!

I do miss daffs growing so lushly. They aren't easy to grow in Sydney - you have to lift the bulbs and put them in the fridge for a month in the winter.

Hi Madeleine,

I've read all of them and I don't remember reading anything about a face cloth. If you could remember the age of the book I might be able to guess which one it was and check it out. McDonald is still writing them so if it was a few years ago I could elimate the more recent ones.

I have some vague memory of a Judy Moody book that talked about her being in the bath and "rubbing her special place with facecloth"... not what I would call neutral or wholesome for my kids.

Unless I am confusing her with a different author? I am pretty sure it was Judy Moody. Our teacher was reading us the books and I had grabbed the book and read it through to the end. A substitute teacher came in and began reading aloud to the class and then when she hit that bit she stumbled over the words, turned pink and skipped it out - I knew precisely what she had ommitted. It has stuck in my head every since.

Hi Alex,

Sorry to disappoint you. That post was about our vege garden last year. That plant produced many a fine cucumber! Cucumbers and pumpkins are more similar than cucumbers and zucchini, but cucumbers have smaller leaves than pumpkins. You may be interested to know that I successfully grew a yellow patty pan type zucchini this year.
